Chris Larmour's training recap for February 2020

13/3/2020

Here we are in March, just two months away from the first of three ultra running events that Chris is going to be taking part in. February is notoriously a cold, wet and dark month but that hasn't stopped him from going out and getting the miles in. His thoughts on the month are further down this post.

February was a difficult month with lots happening. The loss of my mum took the wind out of my sails temporarily but now I have regained myself I am more determined than ever. With this said, I managed to get a decent amount of mileage in because the end goal was still there and that is to raise money for the charity "warming up the homeless".

I had some good training runs, and with the recent weather this made training tough at times, especially when doing 20 plus mile on a Friday night over the downs!

This month I have mainly been cold, wet and muddy but this is all good conditioning training so when we have better weather with us I will be fitter and stronger (hopefully). I often remind myself when out running that the discomfort I'm in is temporary and nothing compared to the situation in which many people find themselves in who live in poverty of out on the streets, this gives me more motivation to carry on knowing I can help them with what we are doing raising money.

Supervisor Chris to take on three extreme running events through 2020

13/3/2020

Our supervisor, Chris Larmour has set out his running goals for 2020 - and it's quite a goal. This year, Chris doesn't just want to do just one extreme running event, but three! Three ultra marathons/ iron man events in the space of just three months to help raise vital funds for the wonderful charity - Warming up the Homeless.

Overview of the three events

MAY 2020 - Viking 100 Ultra-marathon
A 6.25 mile lapped circuit set within farmers fields in Kent. The circuit loops through a mixture of trails, farm roads and cycle tracks. Chris is aiming to complete the event and do 100 miles.
More info about the event.

JULY 2020 - Full Iron Man (The Bastion) @ Hever Castle
Set in close proximity to London and in the heartland of Henry VIII’s old hunting grounds, each leg of the Bastion has been designed to offer the ultimate physical challenge to athletes but in the most beautiful setting.
More info about the event.

July 2020 - Lakeland Ultra-marathon
The Lakeland 100 is a circular route along public bridleways and footpaths through valleys and fells and starts and ends in Coniston, Cumbria.

Nicki Howard smashes the Cycling Down Dementia challenge

10/2/2020

Picture
You may remember back at the end of October 2019, we published a blog post about one of our office administrators taking part in the 'Cycling Down Dementia' challenge.

Nicki Howard took to the saddle on November 1st 2019 and across the past three months racked up an impressive 336 miles. 36 miles more than the goal set out.

An amazing effort - especially when taking into account the terrible weather conditions through these winter months.

Picture
"I will still carry on cycling to work but this challenge has hopefully got me through the worst of the winter. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated."
Nicki Howard

Nicki set out a goal at the beginning of the challenge to raise £200 for Alzheimer's Research UK. We are pleased to announce that she smashed her goal of not only cycling over 300 miles but also raised  an incredible £258.95.

It's not too late to boost that figure further. If you would like to donate, please do head on over to Nicki's donation page on the official Cycling Down Dementia website and please give what you can to this excellent cause;

Just three weeks ago, we sat down with Trudy Hampton from Warming up the Homeless (WUTH) to discuss ways in which we could help. There were a number of things which we feel we could help with and one of those was to have a collection point right here at our offices in Polegate.

We placed the WUTH collection crate in our warehouse on Wednesday 13th November 2019 and here we are just three weeks later reporting that we have managed to fill the entire crate. We opted for a large one and I think it's a good job we did.

Our chosen charity for 2020 has been announced

29/11/2019

As some of you may know, across the past four years we have supported the tremendous local charity - Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and across our time helping them we raised over £6,000 through numerous events including our very own event the Pier to Pier Challenge which ran successfully across all four years.

However, all good things must come to an end and in light of this, we have ended our support for Chestnut Tree House and have picked a new charity for 2020.

We are incredibly happy to announce that our chosen charity for 2020 is ‘Warming up the Homeless’ (
https://www.warmingupthehomeless.org.uk/). A local charity who work tirelessly in Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings to feed, clothe and support the homeless.

We are currently looking at the various ways we can help them and these include;

  • Helping to fit out their physical shop premises that they now have in Bexhill (Installation of electrical sockets, etc)
  • Collection of food, clothing and other resources (Collection basket in warehouse)
  • ICT help and guidance
  • Charity fund raising through events. Notably, Chris L’s series of ultra-marathons he is participating in 2020.

At our offices here in Polegate, we now have a collection basket located in the warehouse. If you have any items you would like to donate, please do pop on down. Thank-you.

A mouth-watering amount of money raised at the CDS Electrical 2019 Coffee Morning

30/9/2019

On Friday 27th September 2019, CDS Electrical hosted their annual coffee morning at their offices in Polegate. This is the fourth year in a row CDS have opted to host a coffee morning in support of the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.

Back in September 2016, CDS hosted their very first coffee morning and raised a tasty £258. Fast forward 12 months and in September 2017 an extra £141 was raised. Last year in 2018, the coffee morning brought in a delicious £300 which brought the total to date raised to a scrumptious £699.

Today, we are happy to announce that during the 2019 Macmillan Coffee Morning at CDS, a wholesome £312.88 was raised for charity which now means the total raised across the four years has topped £1,000. Incredible!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that came to the event and dug deep to help us raise so much money.

It's nearly here! What is nearly here I hear you say? The 2019 Pier to Pier Challenge which is in aid of Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice of course.

The event is now in it's fourth year and having raised approximately £4,000 over the past three years it has proven to be an excellent event to raise vital funds for the amazing work that Chestnut do in the local area.
